[Yellow is, as ever, riding on her Dodrio when she shows up. But this time, she's got a small sack full off... flowers and leaves and the like? Odd.]

Ah, Archie! Sorry to make you wait...

[he doesn't have any of his pokémon out, but he raises a hand in greeting when she arrives.]

Don't worry about it, [he says with a shrug.] Do you wanna go where it's not as crowded? Just... in case.

Where should we go? I still don't know this place very well yet.

[he slides off the wall, gesturing for her to follow.]

Back to the forest. Gotta find somewhere relatively open so if he explodes it won't do much damage and won't alert anyone. ...Should be fine, though, he went off a couple hours ago.

It's... an Electrode habit. All of them do it. It's at least every few days.

Really? I've never seen much of Electrode before, except when Lt. Surge was using them... I'm glad it doesn't hurt him!

Only using Self-Destruct or Explosion would faint him. I don't like using moves like that, anyway. I don't know why they're allowed.

[not really, but he's trying to be an adult and not make her feel awful for the weird stuff between them.]

I agree... Gravvy knows Explosion, but I could never bear to make him use it. Even if he trusts me enough to, I would never want to use a move that causes him so much pain!

Probably because it's sort of a natural move for them to use, but... [well, he's already said he doesn't like it. he'd covered this with anabel as well-- it's a risky and selfish strategy. even if the pokémon is okay with it, how could you make them think that destroying themselves was the only way forward? it's the sign of a bad trainer, he thinks.] Mega-evolution is just as risky, but not as self-destructive. There's trust for the Pokémon to use Explosion, then there's trust for it to allow you achieve mega-evolution.

[it's clear he's wildly more in favour of mega-evolution, but even then believes it can be overdone. you don't need to use it for every single battle, even if both trainer and pokémon somehow have the energy to withstand it.

they're getting closer to the forest parts of the city, so archie releases electrode. it plops down on the ground, greeting yellow with a little 'trode! before rolling forward to follow them.]

What's "mega evolution"...?

[jeez... first people who think it's old news and now people who've never heard of it? well, he can't fault a kid for not being up to date.]

Temporary powerup only achievable when you have a sufficient bond with your Pokémon. It uses a special stone set-- the Keystone and a gem you gotta give your Pokémon. My Sharpedo has Sharpedonite, so he can mega-evolve.

[She looks at her Pokeballs, a bit doubtfully...]

It's a temporary form, like an additional evolution stage. The Keystone and the Sharpedonite can temper a lot of energy which what allows them to do so.

[he shrugs.]

It's a big thing. Not something you can just toss around.

That's amazing that you can handle that sort of thing... When my Ratty evolved, I was so surprised I cried!

It wasn't easy. Even now I can do it whenever I want, it's not easy. I'll admit it took me longer to master it than it maybe should've, because I was stupid and just wanted it for more power... but it didn't work. Both me and Sharpedo weren't in sync with each other.

[he shakes his head, still walking. they're almost at a good enough place-- through a few trees there's a visible open field.]

archie snorts a laugh despite himself. coming to a stop in the open field.]

I'll trust you and Dodrio at your word.

It's true! It's a good sign for a trainer to care that much, after all.

[fortunately it's not! archie and electrode come to a stop, and he looks over at yellow.]

What is it you have with you?

[Yellow pulls out her Pokemon, one by one.]

These are Gravvy, Omny, Dody, and Kitty... With Ratty and Red's Pika, we fought the Elite Four four years ago! And this is Chuchu, she's the most recent member of my team... I met her just after the Elite Four battle, in the Viridian Forest.

[electrode rolls over to greet them, looking a little shy, but not so badly that it's about to explode out of sheer panic.

archie glances over to her.]

Elite Four battle? Did you rank?

[needsnoballs]

Huh...? Rank? What do you mean?

[the air seems a little chillier, but that's not a big deal, surely.]

[he doesn't notice it, assuming it's just wind.]

In the League. How far did you get into the Elite Four?

[needsnoballs]

... The League? That was two years before the Elite Four thing... I've never challenged the League, since I don't like battling.
